The Hollywood stars, who have been married 29 years, spoke about her battle as they attended a charity benefit for the Women's Cancer Research Fund at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel for which they were co-chairs.

As the couple walked the red carpet, Wilson detailed how Hanks helped her feel human as she fought back from her troubled state.
'I think when I was going through my diagnoses and surgery, one thing that I really wanted to communicate to people now that we're through it is that there are still times when you have love and you smile and you laugh,' Wilson said.
'We watched movies, we watched great documentaries, we ate good food and we did our best to maintain our spirit and be thankful.'
Tom, staring lovingly at his wife, added: 'You just clear the decks and you circle the wagons and you join the community and you hunker down.
'It's not that hard to do. It's like when there's a big rainstorm outside, you bust out the hot cocoa and make sure everyone is comfortable.'

Close friend and designer Tom Ford, who was honored with an award for his dedication to raising awareness for cancer, also opened up on how he helped husband Richard Buckley recover from cancer by keeping his life as normal as possible.
'I have, like many of us know friends and family who have battled cancer. I've been with the same person for 30 years. Three years into our relationship, he was diagnosed with stage four throat cancer, Ford said.
'He is here and alive and well 27 years later. He had great care and that's important that people are able to receive the best care and that we continue with cancer research.
'Family support, attitude and not forgetting that the person struggling is a person... Treat them as who they always were. Help them, talk to them, be honest.'

Multi-platinum recording artist Jason Derulo performed for free at the event as his family have been hit tragically by cancer.
'Breast cancer runs in my family. I don't even like to say it like that because I don't even want to speak it more into existence, but it's affected a lot of women in my family and a cause that affects people that are close to you, they always tend to be the ones you care about most,' he said.
'Tom asked me to be here, but that aside, getting rid of this disease, I'm so ready. We've been dealing with it far too long and it's far too common, so I'm ready to get rid of it.'
Derulo performed, as did Coldplay star Chris Martin, who played Wake Me Up Before You Go Go as tribute to George Michael, Raspberry Beret from Prince and Life On Mars by David Bowie.
Tom Hanks walked around the star-studded audience collecting charity tips from the likes of Elizabeth Hurley, Victoria Justice, Tom Arnold, Lisa Kudrow, Martin Short, Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher getting cash tips for the performances.
The event, An Unforgettable Evening, is the flagship fundraising event of WCRF.
